Guilty Pleasure # Mirror

2018

Cradle to cradle. Sustainable design. Recycling. Re-use. These are common expressions in contemporary design. Yet, there seems to remain a human urgency to discard fully functional objects all the time. As criticism towards the exploitation of claiming sustainability within production design, I have given in to the irreversible temptation of breaking mirrors. Due to the chemical silver nitrate, a mirror can not be recycled. These sculptures function as a manifestation of this contradiction, becoming trophies of landfill.
